Description: Inspirited at a forum chat I create in the last weeks this patch. It makes that the gallery can show animated gif and that gif can run as ambience background. Unfortunately it’s not necessary to pick gif as ambience from the gallery. The reason is that this function are deep in the binary programming from SFOS and copy also gif only as jpg.
So create a button which create a new folder under /home/default user/Pictures with 3 sample gif.
This folder is linked with the to the real ambience folder. The user can now change without root it per add and rename the gif files. All user who do not use “defaultuser” and use “nemo” or other usernames can easy change this in the file “unified_diff.patch” in the root folder /usr/share/patchmanager/patches/sailfishos-patch-animated-ambience/.
Some settings are available under a setting page in the patch page. The energy consumption I could reduce on a very good level because the gif runs now only on 3 pages and had a timer how long. Also in LPM or display off mode is this gif inactive. Have fun…
Because copy rights I could not share my nice HD live wallpaper, but you can create it easy alone from .mp4 or other movie types. You need only the Unlead Gif Animator from here https://github.com/Ulead-GIF-Animator-Install-For-PC and a tool to convert in .avi form and reducing the frames per second at 12fps ore deeper. I use the Freemake Video Converter for it https://www.freemake.com/de/free_video_converter/.
The size at the gif should be not bigger like 720x720 and don’t need content at the sides (you can let it black or copy blurred the same picture on the borders). Important is that the gif are quadratic not rectangular.
